1998 World Cup celebrations at the Champs Elysees in Paris, France. Zidane's name adorns the Arc de Triumph. Hundreds of thousands of elated fans shouted "Zidane for President" as Zidane's name illuminated the Arc de Triumph on the Champs Elysee, the symbol of French history, culture, and glory. Zidane's performance in the 1998 world cup, accentuated by 2 goals in the final game against giants Brazil to clinch France's first ever championship trophy, threw him into the role of modern French legend, almost immediately.
